To carry on the legacy of Cookie Cockatoo, donations can be made in his memory that will go to our Center for the Science of Animal Care and Welfare (CSACW).  These donations will go directly to the care, feeding, and well-being of our entire bird collection, as well as all of the animals that call Brookfield Zoo their home.

The Center for the Science of Animal Care and Welfare

The Center for the Science of Animal Care and Welfare was designed to advance the science of “animal-directed” care at Brookfield Zoo, a few of which are:

·     Veterinary Services – Where our animals have routine exams at our cutting edge Animal Hospital, with an advanced imaging center that has a CT (CAT) scanner.

·     Animal Welfare Research – We take a holistic and multi-disciplinary approach to animal welfare.

·     Animal Husbandry – We create an environment that will support the animals’ growth and development, similar to that of their life in the wild.

·     Environmental Quality – We monitor the water, air, and sound quality of the animal’s exhibits.

·     Behavioral Husbandry – We create opportunities for the animals to interact with their surroundings as they would in the wild

·     Zoo Nutrition Services – We provide our animals the most appropriate diet and nutrition to mimic that of their diets in the wild.
