Polar Bear Turns 17 at Brookfield Zoo

Brookfield, Ill. – Hudson, one of Brookfield Zoo’s polar bears is 17 years old today. Born on December 14, 2006, Hudson made his debut at the Zoo’s former Bear Grottos, and has been a favorite of zoogoers ever since.

Hudson recently celebrated his birthday with some special treats. His animal care team crafted one savory ice cake with herring (one of Hudson's favorite fish) and one sweet ice treat topped with raisins. Staff even wrapped his barrel, one of his favorite enrichment items, which he threw around once he finished devouring his birthday treats.

Zoogoers can see Hudson at the Great Bear Wilderness habitat during the remaining evenings of Holiday Magic, which are December 14-17, 21-23, and 26-31. On these dates the Zoo is open from 3 to 9 p.m. On non-Holiday Magic dates, Brookfield Zoo is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
