CZS Researchers Study Effects of Oil Spill on Dolphins

CZS is pleased to announce that it is the recipient of a grant from Morris Animal Foundation’s Betty White Wildlife Rapid Response Fund. The grant CZS received is providing its scientists with funding to conduct research on the effects the 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico could have on dolphins living in the region.  more...

Language of Conservation Poetry Project

The Chicago Zoological Society (CZS) is partnering with Poets House, the national literary center and poetry library headquartered in New York, to help zoo guests deepen their awareness about conservation through poetry. New CT Scanner Enhances Animal Care

The addition of a CT scanner at Brookfield Zoo will add to its world-class imaging suite. Donated by Loyola University Medical Center, this new piece of equipment enhances the zoo’s diagnostic capabilities and gives the Chicago Zoological Society the distinction of having the best, most comprehensive imaging suite in a North American zoo. Brookfield Zoo is the second zoo in the U.S. to own an on-site CT scanner and is the only zoo animal hospital in North America to combine digital radiology and CT technology at its facility.  more...

Dolphin Research and Conservation Insititute

The year marks the 40th year of the Sarasota Dolphin Research Program, part of the Florida Dolphin Research and Conservation Institute (DRCI), which is supported by the Chicago Zoological Society. Based in Sarasota, FL, this is the world’s longest-running study of a wild dolphin population, focusing on many aspects of dolphin biology, including health, behavior, genetics, environmental change, and adverse interactions with humans.  more...
