Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at Brookfield Zoo’s Fiesta para Todos

Brookfield, IL—Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at Brookfield Zoo’s Fiesta para Todos! Enjoy family cultural entertainment and crafts, and visit animals from Central and South America, Mexico, and the Caribbean. The “party for all” takes place Saturday and Sunday, September 15 and 16, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the zoo’s West Mall.

Joining the two-day celebration will be radio personalities from Univision, as well as live entertainment. On Saturday, September 15, at 12:30 p.m., guests can enjoy a special presentation, “Beyond the Music: A Musical Geography of Mexico,” with Sones de México Ensemble, sponsored by Xfinity by Comcast and the National Endowment for the Arts. The group will take the stage again at 2:30 p.m. for “Xfinity Family Hour presents: Sones de Mexico Ensemble” featuring an interactive show with Mexican folk tunes, stories, and dancing games for the whole family as well as a nod to Mexican Independence Day, which falls on this weekend. Beginning at 3:35 p.m., the band Pecados de Maria will bring its hard rock with influences of their Latin heritage to the zoo’s East Mall. La Nueva Moda Band will follow with a performance at 4:05 p.m., and rounding out the concerts on Saturday will be a performance by Moncho & Tito at 4:40 p.m.

The following day, September 16, Flores de Mexico, a folkloric dance company from Linda’s Dance Studio in Chicago, will entertain zoogoers at 1:00 p.m. along with Proyecto Latino, the studio’s young adult Latin dance troupe. Additional entertainment scheduled includes a 2:40 p.m. concert by Da’ Zoo, a performance by Dancers 5 Magnificos at 3:25 p.m., and a half-hour filled with soulful and reggae hits by Angel y Khriz at 4:25 p.m.

Throughout the weekend, youngsters can enjoy the Fisher-Price® Power Wheels® driving track and play space to try out the latest Fisher-Price toys. On Sunday only, Dora the Explorer will be on hand to meet kids and pose for pictures as will Sparky, the Chicago Fire’s mascot.

Fiesta para Todos also features up close and personal views of a llama. Guests can learn all about this species, which lives “south of the border,” during special Zoo Chats at 1:00 p.m. on September 15 and at noon on September 16. Guests can also visit other native Latin American animals at the zoo, including tapirs, Humboldt penguins, callimico monkeys, blue poison frogs, and many others.
