New Stamp to Raise Funds to Protect Vanishing Species
Stamp Available for Purchase at Brookfield Zoo Beginning October 1

Brookfield, Ill.—Today, staff from the Chicago Zoological Society, which manages Brookfield Zoo; Lincoln Park Zoo; the United States Post Office; the U. S. Fish & Wildlife Service; and students from Chicago Latin School gathered in Lincoln Park Zoo’s Kovler Lion House for the unveiling of the new Save Vanishing Species semipostal stamp.

Sales from the Save Vanishing Species semipostal stamp will directly benefit the Wildlife Without Borders Multinational Species Conservation Funds, administered by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. The funds will be divided among the African Elephant Conservation Fund, Asian Elephant Conservation Fund, Great Ape Conservation Fund, Rhinoceros and Tiger Conservation Fund, and Marine Turtle Conservation Fund.

The stamp sells for 55 cents—11 cents more than a First Class Mail stamp—and $11 for a sheet of 20. The stamp is currently available for purchase nationwide at U.S. Post Offices, and beginning October 1, it will also be available for purchase at Brookfield Zoo’s Wildlife Trading Post gift shop, which is located near the zoo’s south gate entrance. Additionally, Lincoln Park Zoo is selling the stamp in its Wild Things gift store.

This stamp marks the fourth semipostal stamp issued by the Postal Service. These types of stamps provide an extremely convenient way for the American public to contribute to protecting threatened and vanishing species.

The mission of the Chicago Zoological Society, which manages Brookfield Zoo, is to inspire conservation leadership by connecting people with wildlife and nature. Open every day of the year, Brookfield Zoo is located off First Avenue between the Stevenson (I-55) and Eisenhower (I-290) expressways and is also accessible via the Tri-State Tollway (I-294), Metra commuter line, CTA, and PACE bus service.
