Chicago Zoological Society to Honor Martin Luther King Jr.

Brookfield, Ill.—Join Chicago Zoological Society staff for a special celebration in honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, January 19, at Brookfield Zoo.

From 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., guests can meet members of the Ankoba Project who made the historic walk with Dr. King on August 28, 1963, in Washington, D.C. They will have a variety of memorabilia from that day on display.

At 1:00 p.m. in the zoo’s Discovery Center, Richard Gamble, senior vice president of operations for the Chicago Zoological Society, will welcome guests, followed by a special performance by jazz vocalist Zemrah. Afterwards, presentations regarding diversity and inclusion will be given by Tyronne Stoudemire, vice president of diversity & inclusion for Hyatt Global, and Robert Renteria, author of From the Barrio to the Boardroom, who will also sign books prior to the presentation. Closing comments will come from Craig Wimberly, public policy chair for the Coalition of African American Leaders.

Guest of all ages are invited to share their wishes and decorate a good wish flag that they can take home and post outdoors. This will allow the flag to blow in the wind and carry the wishes and thoughts around the world to encourage all people.

This event is hosted by staff members of the Society’s Arcoiris group, whose mission is to achieve organizational excellence through diversity.
