    Thanksgiving Day Feast for the Beasts

    Bundle up the family and head to Brookfield Zoo for the Thanksgiving Day Feast for the Animals, on Thursday, November 26, at noon. Bluebell and Moodspot (draft horses); Mac and Cheese (Nubian goats); Magnolia, Emma, and Crissey (Holstein cows); and Heidi (reindeer) will be awaiting zoogoers, who can assist Children’s Zoo keepers in feeding them nutritious tasty treats. Menu items include apples, carrots, sweet corn, oranges, timothy hay, alfalfa, hog chow, grapes, lettuce, bananas, and duck chow.     2009 Photo Contest Winners Announced

    More than 350 photos featuring polar bears, tigers, butterflies, lizards, and many other creatures of the animal kingdom were submitted for the Chicago Zoological Society’s 2009 Photo Contest. A panel of professional photographers had the tough assignment of selecting a grand prize winner, as well as first-, second-, and third-place winners in the adult and child categories. The winning photos are on display in Brookfield Zoo’s Discovery Center lobby through mid December 2009.  more...

    Cookie Cockatoo "Retires"

    Cookie, a 76-year-old Major Mitchell’s cockatoo, has become one of Brookfield Zoo's most famous animals and he’s the only remaining member of the original animal collection from 1934. Now a senior citizen, Cookie has taken up permanent residence in the keepers’ office at Perching Bird House, allowing him to retire in familiar and comfortable off-exhibit accommodations.  more...

    The white-cheeked gibbon baby is starting to explore a bit in Tropic World: Asia exhibit. White-cheeked gibbons are critically endangered, under threat from poaching and habitat destruction.
