Steak Fry Picnic Offers Down-Home Family Fun at Brookfield Zoo

Features Admission to Dinosaurs Alive! and Unlimited Rides on The Carousel

Brookfield, Ill.—Gather family and friends and head to Brookfield Zoo for a good ol’-fashioned Texas-style steak fry picnic on Friday, July 31, or Friday August 7, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

As guests arrive, they will be greeted with southern hospitality and board the Motor Safari tram for a sunset tour of the park on the way to the outdoor Pavilions for dinner.

The zoo’s executive chef will prepare a mouth-watering dinner that features a choice of a 14 oz. char-grilled New York strip steak, a 10 oz. grilled fresh salmon filet, or vegetable kabobs, as well as a side buffet that includes jumbo baked potatoes with all the fixin’s, corn on the cob, cowboy baked beans, tossed and Caesar salads, corn bread, warm peach cobbler, and nonalcoholic beverages. A cash bar will be available. In addition, a children’s menu will feature a choice of a 6 oz. New York strip steak, grilled chicken pasta, or baked macaroni and cheese; cowboy fries; and smokin’ hot fudge sundaes.

The fun-packed evening will also include admission to Dinosaurs Alive!, presented by Dominick’s, where guests can experience 18 prehistoric animatronic creatures in a forest setting along a winding pathway. As the evening progresses, the theatrical lighting illuminating the nearly 25-foot-tall Tyrannosaurus rex and the other life-size dinosaurs will be more spectacular.

Across from The Pavilions, picnickers can take a twirl or even two or more on The Carousel, which features 72 handcarved wooden animals, including a dolphin, polar bear, and tiger, and three stationary animal-themed chariots.

The cost for the picnic, which includes parking, is $44 per adult and $21 for each child 11 and under (zoo members pay $40 per adult and $19 per child). Reservations are required. For further information and to make reservations, call the zoo’s Catered Events Department at (708) 688-8355.

Celebrating its 75th year, the Chicago Zoological Society, which manages Brookfield Zoo, inspires conservation leadership by connecting people with wildlife and nature. Open every day of the year, Brookfield Zoo is located off First Avenue between the Stevenson (I-55) and Eisenhower (I-290) expressways and is also accessible via the Tri-State Tollway (I-294), Metra commuter line, CTA, and PACE bus service.
