Thanksgiving Day Feast for the Animals at Brookfield Zoo

Brookfield, IL—Before families settle down at their dinner tables for their own Thanksgiving Day meal on Thursday, November 25, they can head to Brookfield Zoo and join zookeepers in serving a Thanksgiving Day feast to some of the animals.

The noon event, which takes place in Children’s Zoo, allows guests to assist zoo staff in feeding tasty, nutritious treats to some of the domestic animals, including a miniature horse, miniature donkey, llamas, reindeer, cows, goats, sheep, ducks, and geese. The menu for the day will feature apples, carrots, sweet corn, oranges, timothy hay, alfalfa, hog chow, grapes, lettuce, bananas, and duck chow.

Afterward, guests can watch as zookeepers feed some of the not-so-tame animals like the hawks, owls, woodchucks, and raccoons. Children’s Zoo is free through March 1, 2010. Admission to Brookfield Zoo is $13.50 for adults and $9.50 for children 3-11 and seniors 65 and over. Children 2 and under are free. Free general zoo admission is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, including Thanksgiving Day, through February. Additionally, Saturdays and Sundays are free in January and February. Children 2 and under are free. Car parking is $9.

The Chicago Zoological Society, which manages Brookfield Zoo, inspires conservation leadership by connecting people with wildlife and nature. Open every day of the year, Brookfield Zoo is located off First Avenue between the Stevenson (I-55) and Eisenhower (I-290) expressways and is also accessible via the Tri-State Tollway (I-294), Metra commuter line, CTA, and PACE bus service.
