All in the Family
Our common bottlenose dolphin family just grew by two! While our dolphin group was vacationing in Minnesota this past year, they really connected with 8-year-old Spree – a dolphin born at the Minnesota Zoo. In fact, our dolphins got along with Spree so well, we decided to bring her to Brookfield Zoo!

The other new dolphin, and currently our only male, Chinook joins us from the National Aquarium in Baltimore. He’s no stranger to Brookfield Zoo, as Chinook was here in 2000 until 2004. We’re so excited to have Chinook back and he’s already getting along swimmingly with our ladies.

On your next visit to Brookfield Zoo, visit the newly renovated Seven Seas stadium as well as immerse yourself in the underwater viewing area.

Historic Changes
2010 marks Brookfield Zoo's 50th year of caring for dolphins, and we think a home makeover for our dolphin family is the best way to celebrate this milestone. Renovations scheduled for the 20-year-old Seven Seas dolphin arena include:

  • relining of the pool
  • installation of a new HVAC system
  • upgrades to the water filtration system
  • roof repairs
  • increase of space on the center deck to allow for animal care needs
