Children's Zoo and Hamill Family Play Zoo Internship

These two areas of Brookfield Zoo offer an intern a unique opportunity to work with a wide assortment of native and non-native wild and domestic animals—from the six-gram gold-breasted waxbill to the 12-pound bald eagle, and from tiny domestic hamsters to the huge Clydesdale horse.


With nearly 300 animals representing numerous species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates, the Children’s Zoo and the Hamill Family Play Zoo display an enormous diversity of wildlife.

Fall, winter, and spring interns participate in animal training programs, bird programs, and the dairy program. Completion of a summer internship may also include the popular Animals-in-Action demonstrations.

A Children’s Zoo and Hamill Family Play Zoo internship provides the opportunity for hands-on animal contact as well as extensive interaction with visitors in the Encounter Area, Walk-in-Farmyard, Pet Play, Zoo at Home, Keeper Kitchen encounters.
