Associate Curator – Aquatics and Reptiles/Amphibians, Animal Programs
Responsibilities:
Assist Curator in the management of all on-site and off-site programs and operations of the aquatic and reptile/amphibian collections in accordance with the Society's long-range plan, especially with respect to personnel, facilities, animal, and public programs. Lead and direct operations, staff management, and animal care of the Living Coast and Swamp workgroups and other areas within the Animal Programs as assigned.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Zoology or related field or equivalent combination of training and/or experience required. Advanced degree preferred. Minimum five years experience as an animal keeper in a zoo or large scale animal care facility or equivalent experience required. Two years supervisory experience required. Responsibilities:
This position contributes to the success of the Chicago Zoological Society by performing all member service functions including responding to member inquires and concerns via telephone, e-mail and in person, as well as membership data entry. Process membership and Share the Care applications retrieved from various sales locations. Balance application totals to deposit totals according to batch deposit cover sheet. Address and fulfill miscellaneous member needs and requests associated to their membership applications (print and mail request for replacement card, make follow-up phone calls on applications incorrectly/incompletely filled out, etc.). Primary responsibility includes gift entry into Raiser’s Edge database; secondary responsibility includes updating of demographic data. This position contributes to the success of the Chicago Zoological Society as an integral member of the HR management team to plan, develop, and implement workplace policies, practices, and programs to promote employee engagement, positive employee and labor relations, workplace morale, productivity, and retention and to ensure equitable and fair treatment of employees. Proactively identifies, analyzes, and facilitates resolution of employee relations issues and disputes. Supervises and conducts investigations of complaints and provides guidance and assistance to managers and staff on emergent employment issues. Patrol Officer
Responsibilities:
This position contributes to the success of the Chicago Zoological Society by performing patrol duties, as an armed Patrol Officer, to ensure the safety and security of guests, staff, facilities, and animal collection. Enforce and administer the enforcement of park rules; regulations, state, federal and local statutes. Prepare field reports and required paperwork, in accordance with established procedures. Adhere to work schedules defined by the department using a rotating schedule including weekends and holidays. Follow instructions and directions given by the command staff. Respond to basic inquiries from Park Safety Officers and follow up as needed. Patrol the park and adjacent boundaries using a patrol car, cart, on foot or bicycle or with a dog as assigned. Respond to dispatch calls for routine and emergency situations. Direct traffic inside and outside the park, as assigned. Appear in court as necessary. Assume administrative responsibilities for assigned area(s), including, but not limited to: vehicle maintenance, uniforms, equipment, communications, Life Safety, and public relations. Follow appropriate safety and procedural rules. Keep work area and equipment in a clean and functional condition. Must represent the Society in a professional manner at all times. Open, close, and secure buildings and facilities; gates; and parking lots. Pick up and deliver monies between Cashier's Office and park locations. Senior Keeper - Fragile Kingdom
Responsibilities:
This position contributes to the success of the Chicago Zoological Society by, under direction of area managers or supervisors, providing experienced care for animals and performs related work of maintaining buildings, grounds, and interpretives in assigned area. Inform, assist, and direct guests as necessary. Perform routine duties independently and new duties with direction. Order, prepare, and distribute food as directed. Observe assigned animals closely, routinely, and objectively report to supervisor on their behavior, health, and welfare. Apply knowledge and prior experiences to affect or implement change where appropriate. Maintain and utilize records. Observe condition of assigned area(s), animal enclosures, and equipment. Monitor and clean public space(s), plants, and interpretives as assigned. Report maintenance needs. Perform minor maintenance tasks. Clean animal enclosures, pools, and service areas as assigned. Maintain detailed and current knowledge of natural history, husbandry, and captive management of species and individuals in assigned areas. Monitor guests to insure animal and human safety and protection of Society property. Communicate with and assist guests. Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in relevant biological field or equivalent combination of training and experience required. Minimum three years keeper experience or equivalent, with one of the three years at Brookfield Zoo preferred. Must possess a track record of better-than-satisfactory performance as a keeper or equivalent experience. Detailed and current knowledge of natural history and principles of animal behavior and husbandry required. Must be able to work with live animals safely. Must have good interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact in a courteous and professional manner. Must have ability with co-workers and the ability to follow appropriate communication channels, internal and external to Animal Programs. Basic knowledge of the management of captive populations including related AZA conservation programs. Must be capable of dealing with emergencies calmly and efficiently. Senior Recruiter - Human Resources
Responsibilities:
With Manager, Staffing and Talent Acquisition, responsible for partnering with internal customers to identify recruitment needs and objectives. The Sr. Recruiter will be responsible for full cycle activities include: sourcing, screening, interviewing and facilitate hiring for exempt and non-exempt positions. Assists with and/or manages hands-on daily recruitment process, from posting, sourcing and interviewing to offer negotiations and successful on-boarding of new hires. Establishes relationships and partners with hiring managers to understand business goals and staffing needs, preferred candidate profile and identifies recruitment sources to recommend and implement optimal recruitment strategies. Proactively and effectively manages open positions. Conducts thorough screening and in-depth behavioral interviews to properly assess skill sets and competencies of candidates and to obtain work history, education, training, compensation requirements, and other job-related information to assess organizational fit and refer most qualified candidates. Review and discuss candidates considered and manager’s selection recommendations including counseling on offer details. Prepares final offer packet for review and approval by required internal approvals for full-time and regular, part-time positions. Negotiates and extends job offers for assigned positions. Prepares Payroll Advice forms for manager’s signature for new hires/rehires. Maximize current recruitment sources and identify new recruitment sources; to develop creative sourcing strategies to continually and proactively build a diverse candidate pipeline. Posts job announcements internally and externally (community organizations, university career centers, internet and niche job boards, etc.). Researches and recommends sources and organizations to Manager, Talent Acquisition for approval. Prepares or assists with preparation of job announcements. Disseminates information externally regarding available positions, including traditional weekly or biweekly sources. Develops and places internal job postings, website postings, and external job announcements, Help Wanted ads, posts employment bulletin on Intranet weekly, etc. Corresponds with candidates to notify them of employment consideration and/or keeps candidates informed regarding the recruitment process until position is filled. Partners with hiring managers throughout the process and keeps managers appropriate informed of status of recruitment activities and communications with candidates. Conducts and oversees post-offer follow-up, including correspondence, arranging new hire orientation, confirmation letters, pre-adverse and adverse impact letters if needed, complete file documentation in accordance with established procedures, notifications to appropriate staff, etc. Actively contributes towards effective recruiting metrics such as cost per hire, time to fill, customer satisfaction, etc.
Requirements:
Bachelors Degree in Human Resources, Behavioral Science, Psychology, or other closely related field or equivalent combination of education and/or experience required. Minimum five years+ directly relevant full-cycle “corporate” recruitment experience required successfully managing volume including management level and niche positions with results orientation. Non-profit experience and/or agency experience is desirable. Proven ability to actively, creatively, and effectively source candidates through various recruitment strategies not limited to but including targeted research, cold calling, internet, professional networking, etc. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in recruitment function including screening candidates, behavioral-based interviewing, candidate management, capture strategies, offer negotiations, legal compliance and other HR systems, processes and procedures. Excellent organizational and prioritization skills required; strong attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects with minimal supervision. Demonstrated initiative and ability to take action on information and resolve complex issues using sound business , judgme, nt.
