Brookfield Zoo Welcomes Two New Gray Seal Pups

Next time you visit Pinniped Point, don't be surprised if you see double. Two gray seals were recently born at Brookfield Zoo! The female pups are currently behind the scenes bonding with their mothers, Lily and Tasha, and are practicing their swimming skills in a pool specially designed for the newborns. They'll make their public debut soon but in the meantime we've got lots of cute photos and videos to share...

Brookfield Zoo Mourns the Loss of African Lions Zenda & Isis

The new year has begun on a very sad note at Brookfield Zoo, as we have had to announce the passing of our male and female African lions, Zenda and Isis. They would have turned 14 and 15 this year, respectively. The love for Zenda and Isis by zoo staff was matched by the outpouring of kind words and memories shared by guests and members in the wake of their passing.

Brookfield Zoo Helping Puerto Rican Crested Toads Recover

The rich fauna of Puerto Rico includes only one native species of toad, the Puerto Rican Crested Toad. Unfortunately, this toad faces several threats in the wild and is listed as critically endangered. A group of 19 zoos and aquariums, including Brookfield Zoo, are working alongside the Puerto Rican Department of Natural and Environmental Resources and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service to ensure this species isn’t lost to extinction.
