Brookfield Zoo is Open Every Day – It’s Tradition!

Brookfield Zoo is open to the public 365 days a year. Our typical operating hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sometimes we are open longer. We are never open shorter. And that's a tradition that goes all the way back to before the zoo even opened in 1934.

Celebrate Wolf Awareness Week 2019 at Brookfield Zoo

Every October Brookfield Zoo joins with zoos and wolf centers across the country in celebrating Wolf Awareness Week, a week focused on sharing why wolves are such an important part of the landscape in the United States. This year, Wolf Awareness Week takes place from October 20th-26th.

Brookfield Zoo Salutes Vet Techs During National Veterinary Technician Week

Certified Veterinary technicians (CVT’s) are essential and critical to the day-to-day function of veterinary practices. National Veterinary Technician Week, first celebrated in 1993, takes place in the third week of October each year, and provides an opportunity to recognize the many contributions made by veterinary technicians.

Celebrate World Okapi Day 2019 at Brookfield Zoo

If you've ever seen an okapi, you know they're a very special animal. However, their existence remains threatened by slash-and-burn agriculture, illegal gold mining, and bushmeat poaching, despite having protected status since 1933. One way you can help okapi is by cutting down on coltan, a mineral used in electronic devices, and Brookfield Zoo has a way for you to do that.

When answering the question of Brookfield Zoo’s age, one may be inclined to look at the zoo’s opening date of July I, 1934. But it all depends on how you look at it. Is Brookfield Zoo 85 years old or is it more accurate to say Brookfield Zoo has been open to the public for 85 years?
