Brookfield Zoo’s Giraffe Herd (and Guests) Enjoy Spring Temperatures

Brookfield, Ill. — It has become an annual tradition at Brookfield Zoo, as well as a sign that spring has sprung when giraffes are given access to their outdoor habitat for the first time of the year. Today, with the forecast of consistent warmer weather, Arnieta, Jasiri, and Potoka (PŌ-tah-kah) were able to stretch their legs in the milder temperatures.

The giraffes have been known to run around when let outdoors for the first time of the season. As the animals get older, it seems they go at a more leisurely pace, but, they still enjoyed the sunshine and being outside. The same is true for the public. With many people off work today for Good Friday, families took advantage of the nice weather and visited the Zoo—attendance was estimated between 10,000 and 11,000.

Beginning April 29, guests will be able to once again participate in giraffe feedings, which cost $15. Feeding opportunities continue through September 30 as well as on Saturdays and Sundays in October.
