Habitat Africa! The Savannah

Zoo visitors experience the African Savannah and rocky kopje habitats in this indoor/outdoor exhibit. African painted dogs, reticulated giraffes, klipspringer antelope, and dwarf mongoose are among the animals found here. The keepers in this work group also care for Brookfield Zoo’s pack of Mexican gray wolves.

Through their close work with keepers and their understanding of suggested reading materials, interns receive practical experience in keeper duties and learn many aspects of captive animal management.

Interns will gain experience in the areas of animal nutrition, exhibit maintenance, record-keeping, animal training and enrichment, and animal observations.

As part of his/her Habitat Africa! experience, each intern is required to do a short research project relating to animal husbandry, chosen with guidance from an intern mentor.
