Australia House

The Australia House offers a hands-on learning experience with mammals, birds and reptiles of Australia, New Guinea and beyond. This continents long term isolation has produced many distinctive species (like egg laying mammals) that are found nowhere else in the world. Working indoors and out, as well as in diurnal and nocturnal exhibits, interns get a unique opportunity to work with a varied collection. Interns will have the experience of working in with every species and learn how to operate safely in and around different species, as well as how to identify individuals within large groups. Interns will gain practical experience in keeper duties including diet preparation, enclosure maintenance, guest interaction, record keeping, animal observation, and animal training. A research project on an aspect of animal husbandry is also required.
