Large Carnivores

The large carnivore intern works primarily at the bear exhibit with the polar bears and grizzly bears. The intern will learn how to operate safely in a large carnivore setting under the direction of the bear keeper. Interns will gain practical experience in keeper duties including diet preparation, enclosure and exhibit maintenance, guest interaction, record keeping, animal observation, enrichment, as well as other aspects of the bears’ daily care. Large carnivore interns also have some opportunities involving the big cats such as: diet preparation, animal observations, observing big cat training sessions, and observing big cat medical procedures.

A research project on an aspect of large carnivore husbandry is also required.
