Brookfield, IL—To honor those who have proudly served our nation, the Chicago Zoological Society invites the public to a special Veterans Day ceremony and activities at Brookfield Zoo’s Discovery Center on Monday, November 11. On Veterans Day, admission to the zoo is free for all guests. Parking fees on that day still apply to everyone except to any active, reservist, veterans, and retired members of the military who present a valid ID at the parking booth.

From 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., guests can view an array of military vehicles and memorabilia, including uniforms and documents, from the Revolutionary War to the present. In addition, representatives from the Cook County Military and Veterans Discount Program, Honor Flight Chicago, PAWWS Chicago, and Wounded Warrior Project® will be on hand distributing information to those interested in learning more about the organizations and how to get involved. Also making an appearance and greeting guests between 11:00 and 11:30 will be some of the zoo’s animal ambassadors.

The Legacy Girls will perform toe-tapping hits from the 1940s, 50s, and 60s from noon to12:45 p.m. Afterwards the ceremony begins with posting of colors by members of Joliet High School’s Jr. ROTC and a performance of the National Anthem.

Following the ceremony, guests are invited to stay for an entertaining routine by the popular Jesse White Tumblers.

At Hamill Family Play Zoo (free admission), children can create “thank you” cards for veterans that will be posted in the building.

The Chicago Zoological Society is proud to offer free general admission to Brookfield Zoo year-round to active, reserve, and retired members of the Armed Forces with a valid military ID.
