Brookfield, Ill. —  All is aflutter at the zoo! Brookfield Zoo’s Butterflies!, presented by JULIE, Inc., is reopening for the first time since 2019. Zoogoers can once again explore the outdoor garden and surround themselves this summer with butterflies native to North America beginning May 28 and continuing through September 5.

Butterflies! is home to a variety of butterfly species, including painted ladies, monarchs, zebra longwings, and swallowtails. New this season, several species of moths will be sharing the habitat. Upon entering, a color graphic highlights the species of butterflies and moths that can be seen. Guests can watch adult butterflies flutter amidst a beautifully landscaped exhibit featuring a winding path with water features and a wide assortment of flowering plants and native grasses. Many of the plant species are labeled to give guests an idea of what they can plant in their own backyards to attract the winged wonders.

There is also an off-exhibit space that guests can peek into to see the transformation from pupa to butterfly.
Additionally, Brookfield Zoo staff and volunteers are available throughout the day to answer any questions about the colorful delicate insects.

Butterflies! is located near the zoo’s north entrance, and is open during regular zoo hours of 9:30 to 5:30 p.m. The price of admission to the exhibit is $4 for adults, $3 for children ages 3-11, and $3.50 for seniors who are 65 and older. To learn more, visit CZS.org/Butterflies.
