Brookfield Zoo Health & Safety Update

Chicago Zoological Society (CZS) is excited to announce that Brookfield Zoo has reopened to all members and guests. Please visit our Know Before You Go page for all the details and reserve your timed tickets here.

The past seven months have been incredibly challenging. Operating the zoo with limited guest capacity and with the requirement that all buildings and rides (attractions) be closed as mandated by the state has placed a significant financial burden on the institution. We have made the difficult decision to temporarily close the zoo to the public from January 1 through and including February 28, 2021. We plan to reopen to the public on March 1, within state restrictions.

“The health and safety of our guests, volunteers, staff, and animals is of paramount importance. We have been extremely diligent in communicating to staff the most recent updates from health officials, increased the strength of disinfectants used within the park to hospital grade, posted signage reminding guests and staff of proper hygiene and social distancing, suspended staff travel, and instructed employees to stay home if they were not feeling well. As the situation has progressed, we have a responsibility to do our part to reduce the risk of the virus spreading.”

As a non-profit, Brookfield Zoo relies on ticket sales, donations, annual memberships, fundraising events, philanthropic gifts and support from our community partners. Here are some ways you can help support us.

* Consider making a donation that will immediately support our animal care and welfare programs, as well as, other critical operations of the Chicago Zoological Society/Brookfield Zoo. Your contribution is so important and will be used in the area of greatest need at the zoo during this uncharted and challenging time.

* Link your Amazon account to Brookfield Zoo via the AmazonSmile program. For every eligible purchase you make, Amazon will donate 0.05% to us.

* Watch our "Bring The Zoo To You" Facebook Live chats and share them on your social media channels to raise awareness about all the work we do here.

Do members need a timed ticket for entry?

Yes, all zoo visitors, including members, must have a timed entry ticket to be admitted to the zoo. Members may reserve a visit date at

Will time be added to my membership during the Janaury/February closure?

This closure will truly affect a very small number of member households; only 3% of total yearly member visits occur in these months. The mass extension of membership expiration dates this past July and reduced opportunity to sell memberships and general admissions have had a devastating effect on the zoo’s operating budget. Another similar extension will add to our compromised financial position. Membership expiration date extensions result in significantly less renewal revenue.
