Brookfield Zoo: What To Know Before You Go

The health and safety of our animals, staff, and guests are of paramount importance. As of June 11, 2021, the zoo will be operating under the Illinois Phase 5 guidelines.  Please read below to learn what buildings and attractions are now open. 


Reservations are NO LONGER REQUIRED to visit Brookfield Zoo! While you are able to reserve your tickets beforehand, members and guests are welcome to arrive at the zoo without a reservation. If you previously reserved tickets and parking for your zoo visit, you are welcome to enter the zoo at any time during that day. If you have a general admission pass with a barcode, a member guest pass, a Chicago Public Library Museum Pass, or a Museum Adventure Pass, you can bring that directly to the zoo for entry, no reservation required. 

Members are no longer required to reserve a time for entry, while guests can purchase admission before arrival if they wish to avoid lines and waiting. If you do purchase admission tickets online, please note that all tickets are non-refundable and no rain checks will be made. We appreciate your understanding! The following indoor buildings are currently open or will open at the designated day and time noted. ‚ÄčAll indoor buildings not mentioned, except for bathrooms, are currently closed. Please note that masks remain required inside ALL buildings at Brookfield Zoo (children 2 & under not required to wear masks).

*Habitat Africa!: The Forest
*Habitat Africa!: The Kopje
*Hamill Family Wild Encounters
*Living Coast (and splash pad outside)
*Pinniped Point underwater viewing
*Regenstein Wolf Woods indoor viewing
*Reptiles & Birds
*Seven Seas underwater viewing & Dolphins in Action
*The Swamp
*Tropic World: South America & Tropic World: Asia 


Attractions including Dolphins in Action, Hamill Family Wild Encounters, The Carousel, Motor Safari, all playgrounds, and the water misters are now open. Butterflies! and Hamill Family Play Zoo are not currently operating.

Hamill Family Wild Encounters is currently open (includes attraction fees). The wallaby yard and parakeet aviary are open. While the goat yard is closed, guests can feed goats between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. or however long grain supplies last.

Please note that drinking fountains are turned off and masks are required inside Dolphins in Action


Zoo maps are available on our website. You can also download a zoo map to your phone via QR codes found at the zoo. Please note that no paper maps are available at the zoo at this time. 


If you or a family member is sick, we ask that you please respect the safety of others and stay home. Please visit when you are feeling better!


Hand sanitizing stations will be located throughout the park. Please follow the CDC guidelines by washing your hands for 20 seconds.

For Wheelchair or Electronic Convenience Vehicle (“ECV”) rentals, please call (708) 688-8347 to reserve one in advance of your visit. If you call and leave a message before 5:00 p.m., someone will get back to you the same day. For a description of all the rentals available and associated costs, please click on “Rental (Alquiler)” below. An advanced reservation for a stroller or wagon is not needed.
