Karla Calderón

Karla Calderón Mayo is licentiate degree in Biology from the Universidad Nacional “San Luis Gonzaga” from Ica. She earned her degree with a thesis research which focused on report and identifying to parasitic fauna in sea lions Otaria flavescens during 2013 and 2014 in Reserva Nacional Punta San Juan de Marcona. Currently, Karla is studying a Master with a major in Ecology of Aquatic Systems at Universidad Antofagasta, Chile, in which is conducting research on identification of parasites using molecular tools and analysis from structuring populations of genetic, as a tool to understand the ecological, phylogenetic and epidemiological processes that determine the level of interaction and distribution of parasites in marine systems. Karla finds her main motivation in the conservation of marine species and ecosystems, convinced that the various lines of research such as microbiology, parasitology, population genetics, ecology and fishery acquired throughout her professional experience become pillars and solid foundation for understanding evolutionary and connectivity processes in ecosystems, providing the opportunity to achieve a proper management of marine resources.
