All I Want for Christmas is a Fight Against Climate Change

Well, another holiday season is upon us.  Another time to wish for peace on Earth and goodwill toward men. This year, my hope for peace and goodwill comes in the form of a plea to strengthen the fight against climate change.  After all, climate change is the biggest threat to life on Earth as we know it.  It doesn’t just mean warmer weather now and then.  It means changing weather patterns which affects growing seasons for food.  Climate change affects water distribution as well as the availability of clean drinking water.  It means a warming ocean which contributes to sea level rise, which leads to loss of land and property, ports, and military bases.  Climate change will dictate lots of changes worldwide that will range from convenient to uncomfortable to catastrophic.  The way to address it is by reducing our dependence on fossil fuels, which emit carbon dioxide when burned, for our energy needs.

This year has been filled with ups and downs.  The downs included the election of a climate-denier to the U.S. presidency and the passing of 400 parts per million of atmospheric carbon dioxide.  The ups were the signing of the Paris Agreement by 196 nations and many signs of a strong clean energy market in the United States.

My holiday wish is that Americans keep the progress going.  Increasingly, we are seeing that clean energy bills and support are flying through at the state level.  Not only is this good for the environment, but it is good for human health, the economy, jobs, and for your power bills.  Now is the time to increasingly pay attention to what is happening in your community and in your state in terms of policies and legislation that support clean energy.  There are many grant programs, rebates and incentives, and products that you can take advantage of to support the shift toward clean energy.

Luckily, I don’t need Santa Claus to make this dream come true. This wish is something that each and every one of us can accomplish together.  What do you say, will you help make my wish come true? I hope so!

Wishing you all a happy and healthy holiday and New Year!
Love,
Carlita
