Policy for Home School Groups
The Chicago Zoological Society has a policy of giving IL school groups, including children, chaperones and teachers, free admission to Brookfield Zoo for annual class outings if the group registers online at least eight days in advance of their visit. This benefit is intended to afford all children, chaperones, and teachers in a class or school an opportunity to enjoy the Zoo as a group and to learn about and experience animals and nature in a beautiful park-like setting.
Groups of three or more home-schooled children will not be charged admission to Brookfield Zoo, the same as any IL school group. We welcome students and teachers to the Zoo and want them to enjoy the Zoo as a group and learn about and experience animals and nature. In turn for free admission and to avoid any abuse of this free admission benefit for school groups, we ask that home-school groups take the simple step of providing verification of their legitimate home school status. Examples of such verification include, but are not limited to, the examples below. Any legitimate verification is acceptable:
Documentation verifying registration with the Illinois Christian Home Educators organization (iche.org), or DREAM homeschool life, a homeschool support group (www.homeschool-life.com/Il/dreamhomeschoollife).
Membership in the Home School Legal Defense organization (hslda.org); a copy of the membership card will be considered sufficient.
Registration as a home school with the Illinois State Board of Education (“BOE”) or the Regional Office of Education (“ROE”) serving the community in which you are located. A signed copy of the registration form will be considered sufficient.
Traditions of Roman Catholic Homes (TORCH)
One of the above forms of verification should be sent prior to registering on-line for a field trip to:
