Summer Loving

Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer. School’s out, zoo camp is in, and the summer fun is just beginning. The summer is one of the best times to visit Brookfield Zoo because that is when we pull out all the stops and celebrate animals and nature to their fullest!

We kicked off our season with our brand new, temporary exhibit Dinos and Dragons. This experience brings to life over 15 animatronic dinosaurs and dragons and connects people with dragons that roam the earth today. The gigantic animatronics take you back in time and, make no bones about it, teach you about the science and legends of these giant beasts. You will enter an enchanted world where you can get up close and personal to modern day dragons, including the most fearsome dragon of all, Komodo.

Summer Nights is back bringing more fantastic live music, eats, and animal experiences for adults and kids of all ages.  Join us for indie, rock, reggae, and 80s cover, and house music to dance the night away under the stars. 90s greats Dishwalla close up the season with their biggest hits. Laser light shows, zoo chats, kids’ presentations, craft beers, and gourmet food round out evenings that are made for family fun, dates, or, hanging out with friends.

Days at Brookfield Zoo are pretty great, too. Wander around the park visiting animals from all over the world. Play at our splash pad or take a stroll under our misting stations. Feed the birds. Pet the goats and get up close and personal to some wallabies. This year, for the first time, we have public giraffe feedings and meet-and-greets with our Humboldt penguin animal ambassadors. Get mesmerized by a giraffe’s long tongue, eyelashes, and neck, or meet a penguin, watch it waddle, and feel the feathers. It’s a great way to connect you with some of your favorite animals living here!

Our perennial favorites have returned again this summer. Don’t forget to take a spin on our Carousel, see our dolphins make a splash at Seven Seas, and learn all about our different animal residents at zoo chats scheduled throughout the day. We look forward to seeing everyone and hearing all about your great zoo adventures. Drop me a note and let me know what you are looking forward to this summer at Brookfield Zoo!
