Community Scholars Awarded
They say that 'youth will be served' but in this case, conservation-minded students are being rewarded for their dedication to service instead. Two students from Riverside-Brookfield High School, Rebecca Black and Sheela Turbek, received the first Chicago Zoological Society and Riverside-Brookfield High School Scholarship for Community Conservation Leaders. The two $1000 awards were funded generously by Comcast as part of their pursuit to recognize young leaders in local communities. more...
Expanded Elephant Yard
Hundreds of supporters enjoyed the Rally for Elephants at Brookfield Zoo on Saturday, June 20. Pachyderm fans created elephant crafts at Hamill Family Play Zoo, marched in a parade to the new Pachyderm Yard, took in a Zoo Chat demonstration with Christy Elephant, and heard about the zoo's long-range elephant conservation program from zoo director Dr. Stuart Strahl. Learn what bear care entails. See how our big cat families are connected to the world of conservation. You can learn how zoo staff care for powerful pachyderms or meet Tropic World keepers and learn how they take care of tiny cotton-top tamarins, active spider monkeys, and other rare and unusual animals from South America.
