Meet Dr. Randy Wells & Chicago Zoological Society’s Sarasota Dolphin Research Program

Known for its beautiful white beaches, deep blue waters, and diverse ecosystem, Sarasota is a popular destination for many – dolphin scientists in particular. The Sarasota Dolphin Research Program (SDRP), one of the Chicago Zoological Society’s renowned conservation programs, began in 1970 with Co-Founders Blair Irvine and Randall Wells. After more than 50 years, the SDRP is the world’s longest-running study of a wild dolphin population.

Meet the Newest CZS Behavioral Research Assistant

If you’ve been lucky enough to get out to the Zoo to see Hope and Hudson, our newly introduced polar bear pair, you may have noticed a lone figure watching the bears with a beeping iPad. That lone figure would be me – my name’s Julia and I’m the new behavioral research assistant at Brookfield Zoo!

Hudson Meets Hope: Brookfield Zoo's Polar Bear Pair

The wait is over. Brookfield Zoo guests have noticed a new arrival at Great Bear Wilderness in recent weeks. Hope, a 5-year-old female polar bear who arrived at Brookfield Zoo this past January, and Hudson, the zoo’s 14-year-old male polar bear, recently were introduced to one another.

Meet Pascal, Our North American River Otter Pup

Brookfield Zoo is home to over 2,300 animals but none of them are getting more attention these days than Pascal, our three-month-old North American river otter pup. Born on January 20, Pascal is being hand-reared by animal care staff.
