COMMUNITY, EDUCATION & TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAMS

Zoo Adventure Passport (ZAP!): For nearly 20 years, ZAP! has provided free nature sessions and field trips for families with children ages 3-12 in underserved Chicago-area communities.
 
King Conservation Science Scholars: King Scholars helps diverse high school students prepare for college and future careers through STEM-learning, program courses, and civic engagement projects.
 
College Experiential Learning Opportunities (CELO): One of the top programs for college students in the country, CELO offers internships and research opportunities in a variety of fields.
 
NatureStart: A one-of-a-kind approach to early childhood education, NatureStart invites children to explore and play in the natural world and provides training for early childhood professionals.
 
Brookfield Zoo Science Fair: This annual event enables Chicago Public Schools students to develop and exhibit science inquiry projects and to interact with judges from the scientific and professional communities.
 
Institute of Science Teaching Excellence: This program provides Chicago Public Schools teachers with training on teaching inquiry-based science and in developing classroom practices that support science engagement by their students.

A Zoo for All: With the goal of building an inclusive conservation movement, A Zoo for All provides innovative engagement opportunities for people with disabilities and their families.
 
PROTECTING ANIMALS & HABITATS AROUND THE WORLD 
Sarasota Dolphin Research Program: The world’s longest running study of a wild dolphin population, this program conducts field research and trains scientists from around the world to contribute to dolphin conservation.
 
Global Species Conservation Toolkit: This suite of advanced digital tools helps conservation agencies save species by assessing conservation risk and managing wildlife populations.
 
Behavioral Research: Our research team works to understand what factors lead to optimal animal welfare and provides scientific data to help animal care and veterinary staff make informed decisions.
 
Environmental Enrichment: We create individually-tailored enrichment devices that encourage natural behavior and provide mental and physical stimulation for zoo animals here at Brookfield Zoo and around the world.
 
Anesthesiology & Analgesia in Zoological Medicine: CZS veterinarians conduct cutting-edge research on safe anesthesia practices, develop new methods to ease pain and discomfort, and train veterinary professionals to provide the best possible care to animals everywhere.
 
Medical Imaging: Our veterinary services department is home to the most advanced medical diagnostic imaging center at any zoo and operates the world’s first Zoo Radiology Consulting Service.
